FRESCO Talk#3 Ticket
FRESCO Talk#3 Ticket
“A Conversation with Curator and Gallerist Jennifer Houdrouge” will be the next installment of the FRESCO Talk series. The project aims to bring artists, galleries, museum professionals, scholars, and collectors together and share their insights with the millennial generation.
FRESCO Foundation invites Jennifer Houdrouge to converse about her experience as an art gallery director. The Chimney NYC is an exhibition and performance venue promoting multidisciplinary and international artists. Founded in June 2015, The Chimney is run by Clara Darrason and Jennifer Houdrouge. The Chimney plays on the rawness of its industrial architecture. All works are commissioned to interact with space, creating immersive environments and interactions with the viewers.
Houdrouge will focus on how artists interacted with The Chimney’s space in their unique approach and how The Chimney has been promoting artists through diverse types of events. One recent symposium at the gallery explored the intersection of art and ecology.
The conversation will be held at FRESCO Foundation’s newly launched Soho location, along with a presentation of The Chimney’s archives.
A reception to follow after the talk with drinks and snacks.
Date: November 17, 2018
Location: 45 Renwick Street, New York, NY, 10013
Jennifer Houdrouge is one of the founders and directors of The Chimney, an exhibition and performance space venue located in Bushwick. The Chimney opened in 2015 and focuses on promoting multidisciplinary and international artists. Shows are curated to dramatize the space, so each exhibition explores the constraints and possibilities of the gallery’s unique architecture. Instead of a white cube, The Chimney is a windowless black box.
Before founding The Chimney alongside Clara Darrason, Houdrouge worked as a curatorial intern at Guggenheim Museum and as an assistant to the director at Gladstone Gallery. In 2017, the pair was named one of the “Brooklyn 100 Influencers” by Brooklyn Magazine. Both are alumnae of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, where they met.
